in 2002 I left my job with the airline and took a few months break before starting my new job with KFUPM in February 2003 ( beginning of Semester 2)_
That summer I had a number of medical problems and went to see Dr T****** at KFUPM Health Center fo some of the free health care I was entitled top. I mentioned that I had mild chest pain after exercise. He sent me for tests.
In a state of shock I wasd told that I had Coronary Heazrt Disease and needed a by-pass - soon. I got second and third opionions and went for Quadruple By-pass on 9 March 2004 at Al-Saad Hospital in Khobar. It worked and I am still alive, if rather geriatric.
The operation was paid for by health insurance I had through the employer. The Assistant Dean Dr Kathlan ensured that I had sick leave, on full salary, and time to recuperate.
I often reflect on what would have happened had I not gone to KFUPM ! One thing is sure - had I been with a contractor I would have been on the first flight out after I was diagnosed ! Sick leave and the humane treatment I got from the ELC at KFUPM would not even be considered by a contractor ! |

Oh God! I would not even think of what you would have gone through with a contractor. This said, I knew someone who had knee surgery and given about 15 days off as sick leave. |
