I have been offered a position to teach english in china. Id like to know if the following in my contract is typical:

Working hours: Party B shall perform 22 hours (27 periods/40minutes per period) averagely per week during the contract period. Any and all teaching by Party B in excess of the hours stipulated above will be considered overtime and Party A shall pay Party B's overtime pay at a rate of RMB 150 per hour.( Working hours means the actual teaching minutes which teacher does in classroom and other work time arranged by Party A; The break time between class periods ,off class time at school, lunch time and lunch break are not counted as work time.)

Yep.
Class subjects will determine your planning workload.
Also the contact hour time will be over the whole year.
So, if you think in Semester 1 you are a lucky SOB to pull an 18 hour schedule, don't be surprised if you pull 26 hours in Semester 2.

I don't know if it's typical, but I've had three employers in China and only one didn't count any part of an hour as a full hour. My first job was teaching in a middle school, and the classes were only 45 minutes, so they didn't count as an hour for pay purposes. Other teachers in different schools taught for 50 minutes and that counted as an hour for pay, same employer. My current and previous employers pay me an hour for teaching fifty minutes.

Twenty seven classes, even if each class is only 40 minutes long, is a lot of work. I think there are better deals out there. I would hang on and go somewhere else if I were you. I'll PM you with a possible lead.

No it's not. A class hour is usually 40-50 minutes in many places. Each class is treated as an hour. IMO the way they are doing things is a huge red flag but if the salary is right for 27 hours and all else looks good to you, have at it.
