Does anyone have experience (either good or bad) of arranging their own medical and possessions/travel insurance in China?
I recently moved to a new job and have found out (didn't think about the small print in the contract, duh!) that I'm not covered for serious healthcare.
Had a nasty scare moving down here...my gear went in the freight section of the train and didn't materialise for 10 days...it went on a sight-seeing tour of the northeast...so now I want to be ultra-cautious and get covered.

I'm British and don't have a credit card but can get payments made out of my UK bank account.....if that's relevant.

All advice gratefully received.

Cheers,

AM

Sorry I can't say for sure, but you will get some real advice soon. I do know that AIA here in China has a basic emergency coverage for under 1,000 RMB/yearly? If that number is correct.

I keep meaning to contact a woman I know who works with AIA, just keep putting it off until I get run over by a bus! Laughing

Also, there are various expat insurance plans "out there". Do a search and pick one you like if you plan on doing this awhile. I recall one that had a monthly fee of around 125? or there abouts USD for full coverage in any country. Maybe I can find it again and add it to this post.
