A date etched on many people's minds. Running around like man men we move to Riyadh hoping to sort out salary, flights, the great escape and everything else. Some people feel relaxed and resigned to fate, others are angry and willing to fight in the streets, in court and goodness knows where else...

It has been a good time while it lasted!

My guess; the term/semester finishes and the expat faculty will also be finishing and, maybe for extra spice, will be trying to get monies owed for completing their contracts.

But, you know, maybe The decision to flee came suddenly. Or maybe not. Maybe I had planned it all along, subconsciously waiting for the right moment. The bill was a factor, I think because I had no money to pay for it. Our room service tabs had been running somewhere between 29 and 36 dollars per hour for 48 consecutive hours. Incredible. How could it happen? But by the time I asked this question, there was no one around to answer it. That rotten attorney of mine, Dr. Gonzo, was gone. He must have sensed trouble."

If you are caught up in the amnesty, you are probably on
the wrong board. That's for the indentured who have been
sleeping under bridges the past months looking for their
"sponsors." Even Edex staff have it better than that. And it
is approaching 50 degrees in the western cities.

Meanwhile those on direct hire with KFUPM and other reputable university employers are headed for a long summer break, with full holiday pay !

It will be interesting to see if this has any effect on teachers working on those "visit/business" visas.

Since even government institutions are using them, I doubt it.

As things stand, yes it will. Everyone on these type of visas have to be out of the country. They can come back in September on an iqama.

June 26 for me and none of that running around nonsense. My ticket's in a drawer, visa in the passport and holiday pay waiting to be spent. At times like these, somehow, it make it all worthwhile.

Expecting an iqama just after Ramadan is pie in the sky, especially if you're a working for the likes of EdEx - or American.

According to the Gorilla, you have to trust EdEx to get you out of the country on the 3rd of July. If you leave even a day earlier, you are resigning and they WILL NOT give you a plane ticket home. Just another example of what lying, thieving *beep* they are. If EdEx can possibly cheat you, they will.

Of course it's common in this part of the world. They pray 5x a day, but lie, cheat and steal with the best of them!

Do you think this will affect the practice of using "visit/business" visas going forward?

Brings back horrible memories of Edex. Brings me some pleasure, though, to know that the buffoon still remains in hell long after my escape years ago. I missed a date in Beirut once because Edex kept me to the last minute. Turns out they had read the date wrong in the visa. Got stuck in KSA. Imagine, after a whole academic year in Qassim.
