Hello,

I am an experienced English teacher with a CELTA, and i've taught before in Thailand, South Korea, Turkey, and Spain. I am interested in going to Russia to try it out. I haven't seen too many posts here on eslcafe.com for jobs in Russia, and am wondering if there are other websites out there with more job postings?

I have already applied to one job in Moscow, but sadly they declined to interview me. I think I may have problems because there are huge holes in my resume (from all my travels), is this something that's looked at really vigorously in Russia?

Anyway, any information would be greatly appreciated... I am very interested in Russia and would love to try teaching there!

Most people come over here through a McSchool. They do not turn too many people away, but are not great payers. They do help newcomers get set up though. Plenty of threads about them on this board. I'd recommend using them.

Smaller schools in Moscow do not really advertise as much as the large chains, or hire from abroad. No need, as there are plenty of teachers defecting from said McSchools, and no risk hiring sight unseen from outside.

Apply to BKC-IH, Language Link, English First. Few of them care about details on CVs etc. A Celta is a massive bonus.

Best of luck!

I've got years and years missing from my CV from travelling, and it had no bearing on me finding a job in Russia. I have 4 years teaching experience, all in one place - I don't know if this is good as it shows loyalty, or not?

I just looked up all the schools online and sent a cover letter and resume, regardless of whether they had openings advertised or not. I got quite a lot of interested replies. Some offering visa support, others not. The ones who didn't, I threw away and concentrated on the ones who did.

From my interview process, I would recommend Orange Language School in St Petersburg. They offered a good salary and seemed more professional than the other language schools.

I opted for a private boys school in the end, because the thought of a Mc School didn't appeal to me. But, should I change my mind after a year, I will get back in touch with Orange.

I can send the email of the lady you should contact, if you are interested (PM me and I'll give it to you).

Cheers,

Phil
