Anybody have firsthand info on the new rules going into effect July 1? I've seen a bit about it here and there on the web but the China BB's have been strangely quiet on the subject. Not sure if it's going to be a true radical change or just another squib.

This site is from last year but states that the 2013 rules will make HK runs more difficult.

"..... Increased Border Control:

A recent update from PLG's China office indicates that certain EEA nationals will no longer be eligible for expedited or same-day visa application processing with the Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong. As visa applications for certain EEA nationals will be more closely scrutinized when applying in Hong Kong, these applicants should expect an increased processing time of four business days instead of one;....."

Any news on this?

There's noise about this coming from a few of the regular places but nothing earth shattering has come to pass so far.

Things seem to be tightening up a bit, but this is fairly anecdotal at the moment.

As with most things in the middle kingdom, this is going to be a "suck it and see" process which will probably involve some changes, and then some more changes and then maybe a relaxation of some of the changes.

Remember the whole "foreingers paying social insurance" thing that was going around a year or so back - I expect this visa stuff to be more organized than that, but I would be very surprised if I wake up on July 1st and suddenly I have to give my local PSB a butt-print and stool sample.

They already have a butt print on file. Why do you think you have a Western toilet? Very Happy

Yeah - will be fully implemented at my school starting next semester. So far they have been paying the monthly contributions, but comes out of our end commencing in September. Still yet to hear of anyone claiming this mythical pension reimbursement at the end of the contract though.
I've run up all kinds of crap on my insurance card so far.....you can even use them for massages in some places.
