It seems that non-GCC female residents of the UAE can no longer cross the Dibba border point into Oman without written permission from their employer or male guardian:

I look forward to this being tested. (And I'd test it myself if I weren't **cough** a guy.) I'd love to hear someone say, "Really? You won't let me pass with my American (or British, Aussie, Canadian, etc.) passport? Really?" Shocked

Gus, it has been tested. Some female residents of the UAE - i.e., those with Emirates ID cards - who have joined tour groups on coaches have been prevented from crossing the border at that checkpoint, causing untold difficulties for the tour group companies, many if not most of whom are, understandably, complaining that they were not given any advance notice of this new requirement on the part of the Sharjah authorities.
