Hey out there, recently hired for Yanbu but have been told it will be a 3 month wait to bring wife and child over-this I can deal with but what I find strange is the cost of housing in Yanbu...according to http://www.expatarrivals.com/article/interview-with-alexander-a-british-expat-living-in-saudi-arabia compound living costs US$40 grand per annum.....bit more than I expected and the idea of living in town athough is fine what are the practicalities of wife going out to the beach without me as her chaperone?? cheers. |

is it a 3 month wait until they start the paperwork or a three month wait until they arrive? Best to clarify this asap. If the former, it could take an additional three months to do the paperwork.
Sounds about right for a good compound. You might be able to find a cheaper one for around $25-30K. Bear in mind that the only housing you will find on the net is likely to be at the top end of the market. You are best not doing anything about housing until you have arrived here anyway.

Thanks for that but what is he scenario regarding women being UN chaperoned and not on a compound? If not possible then the job isn't either. |

I've seen unchaperoned women walking around everywhere at all the cities I've been in Saudi Arabia. If you're a woman you have to wear a loose robe and a scarf, however when I'm shopping at American and European malls there are woman walking around inside with loose black robes without any headwear. They evidently walk straight from the car to the store and don't bother putting on scarves. |
