I'm an English major at ISU, soon to graduate. I was a TESOL minor until I recently had to drop it due to a scheduling issue. Will being just an English major disqualify me from consideration of acceptance? Are my hopes of getting into JET dashed because I'm no longer a TESOL minor? |

No, they aren't. The JET program does not demand qualified teachers. |

1) We don't know what "ISU" is, and it's probably not relevant to the present discussion.
2) Not having the TESOL minor won't disqualify you, but it would probably have made your resume a bit more attractive if you had had it. As Pitarou noted, JET doesn't requite people to be a "qualified teacher" (though I'm not sure I'd agree that a TESOL minor makes one a "qualified teacher"). But, showing that you have some TESOL experience will probably help you, so you might want to highlight on your resume the TESOL courses that you did take, even if you didn't complete the TESOL minor. |

You don't NEED TESOL or any sort of qualification but mention it in your Statement of Purpose, find some way to work it into your resume and bring it up in your interview if the interviewer doesn't (Although they most certainly will). Just make sure you emphasize that it was just scheduling that made you drop it and demonstrate that you've actually learned the material. |
