Hi guys,

I'm interested in teaching English in Indonesia (second choice would be Malaysia or Singapore). I'm a native born English speaker from the USA, have a BA in Literary Journalism (part of the English department at UCI), and speak Indonesian fluently (I also have a law degree but that's another story...). I currently have no ESL teaching experience. I'm wondering, if I take CELTA now, what would be my chances of getting a well paid ($1000 per month) position in Indonesia?

I recently interviewed with English21 which offered me a 3 month teaching internship in Sukabumi Indonesia (http://english21indonesia.weebly.com/), with accommodation and a stipend of 1.2 million rupiah.

So...would my odds be better off taking CELTA and applying for a real, paid job, or accepting this internship as a stepping stone?

Thanks!

1.2 million a month plus lodging? I haven't heard of wages like that in Indonesia for more than 10 years. Even EF pays 7 million a month. It's just my opinion, but I would give this offer a big miss. Internships are not common in this industry. If you have a degree and a CELTA $1000 is not big money, it's the least you should ask for. You could walk into a hundred jobs in China or Thailand paying that much or more.
