They were offering more before but they have an entrenched bunch of staff from you know where who don't want native speakers - I do know someone who is teaching summer school and getting 50 rials a day.

700 OMR would still be a very poor basic salary

Agreed. Some recruiters and private unis in Oman have even lower basic salaries. However, if the 700 OMR was part of an overall package of say, 1300 OMR, then it wouldn't be so bad...
