Hi All,

Word has reached me from the dean of our Faculty that government university contracts are currently being reviewed with the prospect of salaries and terms being upgraded. Apparently this will apply to all government universities throughout Thailand. So hopefully a bit more than the usual 27K or whatever per month.

Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone heard anything more? (As much as I love my dean, I'm never quite certain if he is telling the truth).

Cheers.

This is correct. The question most of us are asking is when will this take effect. The salary would probably start at Baht 30,000 but one never knows if this will include a housing allowance or not.

With salaries that low, I'd expect at least a free dorm to be included in the terms of the contract. But how on earth does one get ahead financially on 30,000 Baht a month? I'd rather just head to Korea where salaries are much higher and free accommodation is included in the contract.

Holiday in Thailand.

Yes agreed that the salary may be low at government universities here There are tons of wanna be EFL teachers here especially from Kaosan Road and for this reason positions will mostly all be filled even though pay is minimal. It is hopeful by many of us qualified EFL teachers here that salaries will change dramatically in the future including benefits.

I agree. With the market saturated with backpackers, the trained and experienced TEFL'ers suffer the low salaries and shady conditions.
