is that going to be an issue even though I have 4 years post uni teaching experience and that was teaching writing for somewhere like Zayed, or HCT or UAEU??????

From their most recent job postings:

Zayed U. - An M.A. in TESOL/linguistics, or an M.A. in a closely related field and a minimum of three years’ teaching experience, preferably at the adult or tertiary level. Instructors with a recognized teaching qualification and a high degree of digital literacy will be given preference.

UAE Uni - A Master's in TESOL/TEFL/Applied Linguistics and a Bachelor's degree, preferably but not limited to Education/English/TESOL/EFL. A minimum of three years relevant teaching experience, preferably in Foundation Programs overseas or experience teaching young adults.

HCT - A Bachelor's Degree and a TEFL/TESL Diploma is required. A Master's Degree in TEFL/TESL is preferred. A minimum of 3 years teaching English, preferably at a tertiary level. Must be able to provide instruction at various levels within the program areas. Experience in developing course curriculum as per accreditation and international standards.

CELTA holders are best farmed out to the minor leagues. Only after they have acquired a Master's (or its poorer cousin, the (cough) DELTA) should they be drafted into the Major Leagues.

Which Major Leagues are these? Drafted into institutions in countries that are well-known for very low levels of English ability? Does an MA in linguistics makes any difference at all in learner performance? IELTS scores for the region, currently languishing between 5 and 6, would suggest that it doesn't.

Surely MAs are required for prestige only? Not for any enhanced classroom ability.

Certainly. It is essential, according to almost everybody. But that is for getting the job, surely? Afterwards, in the classroom...?

Employers in tertiary require them... because in this part of the world they can afford to demand them because of the higher pay scale. The debate of whether an MA makes a better teacher or outcome for the students is moot in this market... sadly. To be honest, some of the best teachers that I have worked with had neither a related MA nor a CELTA. Cool

It rather matches the student demand for Native Speakers. Again, my experience is that some of the best teachers are NNS.

This is the Middle East... all part of the mystery.
