Just wondering, how many of you have body alterations? I'll go first, I've got two tattoes, they are of mendhi designs, that I designed myself and are black. One on my foot, one on my lower back. Three body piercings and ten earrings, and I where them all to work. |

I have none.
I might be willing to get a tattoo someday, when they're no longer a trendy fashion statement. |

Is650,
I wouldn't say that they were trendy fashion statements, certianly not if they're on parts of your body that you tend to cover up. My tattoo is on my foot, and because of that I never wear sandals - my piercing is on my nipple, which is a sex thing I guess.
What would your tattoo represent?? |

I have 3 piercings.
One through each ear and one through my eybrow.
I was going toctake my eyebrow ring out when I came to China, but I feel naked without it. So, intead, I just switched from a hoop to a barbell. It's not as noticable.
No Tattoos yet. I want a little penguin, but I haven't found the right little feller, yet. |

Two large tattoos - one each on upper arms. Positioned so they are easily hidden by clothing when required. |

Wait till nolefan sees this.
He has many.
At least that's what I've been led to believe.
He's the other pierced brow ESL teacher in China.
Although, maybe this post will bring forth more. And I won't feel like such a freak in this conformist, everyone looks the same, country (no offence, please don't attack me).
On the other hand, one could clain the body piercing is "all the rage," so by piercing yourself, you're just conforming to the trends of Western society.
But, by not piercing, one is not pushing the bar to be different, either.
Hmmmm....
I'm in an argument with myself.
At least I know I'll win
Enough babble from me.

What are the implications of body piercing for one's "ying/yang balance" ? Someone who was involved with acapuncture (sp?) once remarked to me that body piercing could cause serious problems if a stud (or whatever) is inserted near particular acapuncture "points".
Any comments ?
Peter

One tattoo on my lower back of Dionysus (my avatar).
Four ear piercings--two in each ear. Plus a cuff that I wear higher up.
One navel ring.

You said it girl, I jumped at this thread as soon as the page loaded. So far the count is 4 piercings (2 left ear, 1 right ear, 1 eyebrow) used to have my nose and my nipple too but I got them removed for safety reasons (ex-girlfriend related )
As far as tattoos, I collected a few of them over the years and hope to get a few more as soon as my creativity kicks in again ( oh my muse, where have thou gone?)
Most of them don't mean much to anybody but myself and I have designed every single one of them except for a rose tattooed on my ring finger which is the only visible one. The others are on my shoulders and they represent milestones in my life.
I have grown accustomed to being looked at as the odd man out so it don't bother me none!! Strangely enough, I feel less of an oddity here than I did in the states.
Some days I take all of them out, other days I put some in... just depends on how the wind blows...others attach more importance to my piercings than I do...
They do understand when I mention that I was in a Motley Crue cover band when I was 12 and I wore stolleto heels back then |

Just one piercing in each ear through the lobes. Nothing else. I don't think I'd trust myself to pick something I wouldn't get bored with a few years later. I've thought about piercing my tongue though, but I'm not good with pain. |

Pain is an understatement when it comes to that particular piercing.... I know of more than a dozen folks who fainted as they were getting it done!!
The tongue is the most active muscle in the body. it is always trying to repair the thorn tissue and thus never properly heals... |
