PEOPLE
'Partridge Family': Hello world, there's a show they're remakin'

Here's a film development that was so inevitable it hurts: a big-screen remake of TV's "The Partridge Family" is headed our way.

Paramount Pictures has bought the film rights to the TV series, which starred Shirley Jones as a mom performing with her gaggle of kids in a rock band. The show made stars of David Cassidy (now a fixture in Las Vegas), Susan Dey (who has gone on to a pretty fair TV acting career) and Danny Bonaduce (now a Los Angeles radio personality and sometime Fox TV reality-show pugilist).

A script for the film is under way, though no casting decisions have been made yet.

"It's a contemporary family comedy," producer Billy Gerber told the trade. "We aren't looking to make it some campy remake but a mainstream family movie in the vein of 'School of Rock'."

FOX ANSWERS CONTROVERSIAL NIGHTLINE SEGMENT: Fox TV news anchor Chris Wallace, saying he was offended by Ted Koppel's airing of a controversial roll call of American dead in the Iraq war on ABC's "Nightline" last week, says he will stage a rebuttal show of sorts in which he will list good things the United States has done there.

Wallace, a former ABC employee, is the son of CBS newsman Mike Wallace and host of "Fox News Sunday." He said he will do a special segment this weekend highlighting U.S. accomplishments in Iraq to counter Koppel's "Nightline" program on Iraq.

Koppel on May 2 devoted an extended version of his show to reading the names of 721 American soldiers killed in Iraq. Some criticized the show as anti-war propaganda. The Sinclair chain of TV stations refused to air the broadcast, which Koppel defended as a way to honor the dead soldiers that he has said lacked any ulterior motive.

Wallace was a frequent substitute anchor on "Nightline" before joining Fox News late last year. He says he thought Koppel's broadcast was politically motivated and lacking in context.

"It just seemed to me that their way of paying tribute was wrong-headed," he said. "I take Ted at his word that he did not intend this to be a ratings stunt or to make a political statement, but I think it ended up that way."

There was no response from Koppel or ABC to Wallace's plans.

CAMPBELL WINS BIG PRIVACY SUIT: Model Naomi Campbell scored a legal victory against a tabloid newspaper on Thursday, in a case many feel will have far-reaching implications for Britain's celebrity press.

Britain's Law Lords, the country's highest court, ruled against the Daily Mirror in the final round of a long legal battle that began when the paper ran a story saying, correctly, that Campbell, 33, had visited Narcotics Anonymous. The Lords' ruling restored an award of more than $6,000 that Campbell had earlier lost on appeal. The Lords' ruling concluded that the model had endured an "invasion" of her privacy.

Said Campbell's lawyer Keith Schilling: "This not only vindicates her personally, but more importantly it represents a real advancement to the rights of people to maintain important elements of their privacy."

The case centered on publication by the Mirror that Campbell had been addicted to drugs, along with details relating to her treatment and a photograph of her leaving a treatment session.

Mirror editor Piers Morgan, already under fire this week over his newspaper's publication of pictures claiming to show British soldiers abusing an Iraqi detainee, poured scorn on the decision.

"This is a very good day for lying, drug-abusing prima donnas who want to have their cake with the media, and the right to then shamelessly guzzle it with their Cristal champagne," he said in a statement.

IS IT LOVE? Matthew McConaughey flew to Spain to attend Penelope Cruz' 30th birthday party recently, fueling rumors that the two, who met while filming "Sahara" together, are dating.

The pair were first linked after Cruz ended her three-year relationship with Tom Cruise in January. They have since been spotted several times together off the set. Cruz has refused to discuss the relationship. As for the party, a source told IMDb.com, "Matthew enjoyed himself so much he left the party propped up by a male friend on each arm."

Hello world, here's a song that we're singin'
Come on, get happy
A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringin'
We'll make you happy
We had a dream we'd go travelin' together
And spread a little lovin' if we'll keep movin' on
Somethin' always happens whenever we're together
We get a happy feelin' when we're singin' a song
Travelin' along, there's a song that we're singin'
Come on, get happy
A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringin'
We'll make you happy
We'll make you happy
We'll make you happy

Excellent! I've been needing a new Partridge Family Lunchbox. My old one is looking a little worse for wear.
