Man if another person asks me to rewrite their thesis or give CPR to some lame high school-level "I like swimming, I want to make money" resume my head will explode. I'm not the local ghost writer.

I mean, if you do it,how much should you doctor these things? Too much is just not realistic of that person, but helping only a little is like grabbing your flotation cushion in the the event of a water landing. Is it better to just get out of it, and if so, how?

time for a full bottle in front of me, or a full frontal lobotomy..

Two choices:

1. Go into the editing business, and tell them you'll work for 100RMB per hour, with a minimum charge of 200RMB (for resumes). For a thesis, charge by the page. You could even have business cards made up that say "Atlas' editing." Either you'll end up making a bit of cash on the side, or they'll see that you're serious and (hopefully) stop bugging you.

2. Just say no, and refer them to someone who does editing. Wink

If by your editing you are helping someone misrepresent himself, then I would say that's going too far, for example if you're rewriting a resume for an English major because he lacks grammatical knowledge of English. If you're just helping make sure the resume is formatted correctly, that's acceptable.

I'd kind of like to have more of that kind of thing coming my way. I enjoy it. Much easier to deal with one person than with a whole class. And makes me feel useful. I'm thinking about trying to get into editing.

I can see how a flood of it would be a pain, though.

Thanks for your replies,

I'd be happy to start an editing business if I wasn't so busy.
I bet it's a good way to make extra money! Especially if one marketed themselves to all the sign makers in town. So many mistakes on Shanghai signs, and menus!

clothing store: Scam Italy (seriously? I suppose that's better than Italian Scam)
in a giant window: let's all help planet
on the top of a skyscraper: X Corperation (unless it's German or something)

Did you ever order pee soup? Mr. Green

It's easy to find lots of mistakes anywhere you look!

Or you might want to order a pig sandwich with a nice hot cup of Ethiopian Horror Mocha

Starbuck's sign: Try our new Vagtable drink! Tempted to try that one myself....
