Sorry, How much are rents just out of curiosity? If one can to Istanbul not wanting to share, how much would I be looking at paying? Could one find somewhere decent for 800lira?

Er, you need to define what you mean by "decent"!

Where you are going to be in Istanbul is likely to affect the price.

This depends largely on location. Furnished flats will also be more and they are not abundant. Take a look at www.sahibinden.com. If you are willing to live a little outside of the city center area, you will find cheaper and possibly newer flats. But, with the Metro and the Metro busses, your commute time will be greatly reduced, so if you can find a place close to one of these lines, you are better off. I lived in Istanbul for 4 years (2 years ago). My guess is you will be lucky to find a decently furnished place in an ok area for only 800 lira per month. If you are willing to buy basic furnishings, then an unfurnished flat would probably be anywhere from 100-300 lira less per month. It is easy to find second hand stuff around Istanbul or on craigslist.
