Generally this place seems OK, but there are 2 items in their contract:
1. 90 rmb/hr. guaranteed 16 hrs/week
2. They hold 10% of monthly earnings until contract's end as deposit so ft won't do a flit
I think the deposit thing is illegal, but could live with it if they're legit. Any ideas? Many thanks. |

No. Dealbreaker. If they don't trust you they shouldn't hire you. Or, implies conditions are so poor that people don't want to stay. Very possible they will find things you "did" to deduct at the end (need to paint your room, your book is too creased). Some deposit is fine to cover possible damages to your housing or whatever, but that's not reasonable.
Also, do people still seriously work for less than 100 rmb an hour? Ugh. Inflation has been around 8% for the last few years. 6000 RMB? I hope you are teaching supermodels. |

| I think I saw this contract in my email a few years ago as it sounds very familiar, both the name and details. It is a terrible offer. |

Illegal? How can it be illegal if you sign a contract agreeing to such a condition? You can give up most of your rights that are supposedly legally required if you agree to do so. I'm sure most of you have contracts taht say you probably work 5 days a week and yet you work weekends when it comes to holidays, right?
Don't talk about legal or illegal to something you voluntarily choose to give up.
That being said, I would never agree to such a thing. |

it's probably illegal because chinese labor law prohibits them from crafting contracts that contain conditions like this. duh.  |

This is the same problem everywhere and in every aspect of China. There is rules and laws and nobody cares.
Last week I was in a large restaurant with no-smoking signs on every wall and ash trays on every table. This is China at its best. |
