AFAIK, you can't take over a working contract from someone else. The whole point to a contract is a one-year stipulation with paperwork from the government that allows you to reside and work in Taiwan. Other people might know if your qualifications entitle you to such; I'm not sure.

You might be able to illegally work at a school that is desperate for teachers, because one recently left/they have a sudden rush of students signing up. If you don't mind teaching illegally (and all that comes with it) you don't need to hedge your bets on waiting for a teacher to bolt. You could just approach schools yourself. It's up to you whether you mention your interest in short-term work. However, people who bolt are giving all the professionals here a bad name. Probably the best arrangement is to express your interest in picking up a part-time schedule of work at two places (for more income). That will indicate to the employer that you're teaching illegally and don't want the burden of a contract. Believe me, there are schools out there, esp. as summer approaches, who will accomodate such arrangements. Or if your qualifications aren't high enough when you tell them your background they will know you can't be hired with a contract.

After your adventure, think about going back to school to get more advanced degrees. The investment pays off, believe me.
