Hi,

I would like to come to KSA. I am British. I would also like to bring my family. My wife is Mongolian and our 3 kids all have dual passports. I have heard of a lot of racism against Asians by Saudis and I would hate my family to experience this. If that issue is a non issue we will consider moving (from Mongolia). Also I have a CELTA and a BSc and MSc (unrelated to teaching of course) plus 8 years teaching experience abroad (Mongolia and Korea). What are my chances of getting a good job with Family Status and Educational Allowances? How about KFUPM?

I am new to this forum

Thanks

Good chance with KFUIPM - BUT educational allowance is capped at a TOTAL of SR25,000 per annum. Not nearly enough for 3 children. Lots of teachers there have wives from Asia.

Thanks. That sounds encouraging. Also only one of our kids is school age. The other two being baby and toddler - so only school fees for one. Did you work there?

In your case, KAU might not be a good fit for your needs. The university has many (in my opinion) advantages, but they don't give an educational allowance (zero) and the housing allowance is one of the lowest of the top government universities in the kingdom.

But are their requirements flexible? The job ad I saw on KFUPM's website specified applicants have the following:
A basic degree in any discipline, plus

MA/MEd in TEFL/TESOL or Applied Linguistics including a practicum; a one-year postgraduate diploma in TEFL/TESL from an accredited university, or an RSA/UCLES DELTA. These qualifications must be full-time courses. More basic post graduate qualifications in TESOL (CELTA, Cert TEFLA or equivalent – full-time 120 hours with a practicum)) can also be considered for candidates with particularly appropriate experience (5+ years)

They can't always get what they want - if I may paraphrase a popular song of my youth. They do insist on degree plus CELTA or similar. I have never met any Mongolians in KSA - or anywhere else.

I worked at KFUPM before giving up work to concentrate on slow racehorses.
