Hey everybody! I know that this is the Russia forum, but the Ukrainian forum is pretty much dead. I am doing CELTA right now, and I'm on the job hunt in Ukraine. I've been in contact with a Ukrainian woman who is helping me find a job, but when it comes to salary I am not quite sure what to press for. I told her at least $600 a month with an apartment, $900 a month without.
Can anybody tell me if this salary is reasonable for a life in Kiev? I'm not a huge spender, but I do enjoy the occasional night out on the town.
Thank you in advance for your replies!

I can't say for sure, but money seems to go further in Kiev (at least when I was a tourist) than in Russia, so perhaps you're pretty close on the mark with your asking wage.

$600 a month...haha...that's made my day. You've gotta be American. Europe is expensive. I hope you like soup.

Thank you for a rude, xenophobic comment. It was greatly appreciated.

Well, in my vast experience only people not from Europe still imagine that Eastern Europe is some sort of never never land in which everyone lives on $20 a day. You'll be as poor as heel on that salary. You should be thanking me for the heads up. I have no beef with Americans and count several as being in my closest group of friends. I'm not a racist but I concede that I have strong views against hateful ideologies.

Hateful? Who doesn't love soup? Soup criticism is blasphemy in that part of the world.

Must.eat.your.soup.
