There hasn't been any updates on this school for awhile. I'm just curious what working conditions are like and how the morale of the college is? Thanks very much!

The PYP dept. has gone through many directors since Margaret left at the end of 2010. Currently, they are advertising for a new PYP director. You many interpret it at will.

What do you mean by "many?" The last IEP director was in that role for three years before leaving a couple of months ago.

There have been 3 directors since 2010. That adds up to many.

How can there have been 3 directors in 3 years when the one that just left has been there for 3 years?

The math doesn't seem to work in a way that is at all negative. So number one on your list left in 2010... then number 2 was in the position for 3 years... and just left and now they are advertising for number 3?

So, there will be a new director... could be better or worse. At least we haven't had many teachers here whinging about things, so the teacher turnover must be low.

After Margaret left, Stephen was elected as the PYP director interim. After him, followed Rebecca. From what I understand, she was not happy with the president (?) and left. Now someone else is sitting interim. I suppose if I had to teach English, then AUK would be more tolerable than elsewhere here in Kuwait. Of course, it all boils down to salary, managment and program.

No, they've had one director since 2010---the designation of "interim" in front of a job title indicates a temporary situation. Interim roles are common across just about every occupational field and staffing level and are meant to fill a void so that day-to-day operations of the business or organization can continue with as little interruption as possible pending the potential hire of a permanent employee. For example, an interim (or acting) director is simply an existing employee who, in addition to continuing the duties of their own position, is charged with temporarily taking over the responsibilities of the director role until a permanent director is hired. Once a new appointee is in place, the interim/acting employee steps out of that role and back to focusing on the duties of his/her main position.

I must say that I would interpret it the same as Nomad Soul... they've had one director.

Stephen (Linkedin)
Senior English Instructor at American University of Kuwait
Kuwait | Higher Education
Current: Interim Director / Senior English Instructor at American University of Kuwait

Apparently, Stephen did not hold the position long. He and his wife decided to move back to Korea. Rebecca filled the vacancy. You are correct that Rebecca held the title for 3 years.

(MOD edit for names - do not use full names without the permission of that individual)
