I am posting a copy of this here (as the one in the North America forum has not received any replies).
I am interested in hearing about ways in which people living in North America have successfully drummed up business for themselves as a tutor. My university (and city in general) has a high concentration of ESL students and competition amongst tutors seems to be high.
Right now my plan is to put up some color flyers on bulletin boards at my university and the local colleges, with business cards attached (rather than little tags to rip off). I am going to advertise mainly in the ESL center, the English department, the Linguistics department and the cafeteria (seeing as flyering the whole campus would be a full-time job in itself). I plan to check out nearby private ESL schools to see if they have bulletin boards as well. I am also going to contact local high schools to see about advertising my services there.
Do you have any other suggestions about advertising techniques or possible clients? I am not really interested in tutoring young children.
THANK YOU! |
