Is the Thai Baht, US Dollar ratio going back to 40 soon? Laughing Teachers will be leaving Thailand in droves.

Most people I know come here to teach and definitely not for the money. Also there are many EFL teachers (qualified and non-qualified native speakers) who would always come here to teach English regardless of CURRENCY exchange rates because they love Thailand. Very Happy

I've been here since April. April, May, and June it was 33 thb = 1 usd. For the past month or so it's been 31-> 31.5 thb = 1 usd.

What leads you to believe we are on our way to 40?

According to several currency exchange websites, the baht hit a peak of about 28.7 THB to 1.00 USD on April 21 of this year. At that time there was some worry that the baht was getting too strong.

Since it has continuously depreciated and currently stands at approx. 31.6, which is still pretty far from 40 but marks a one-year low.

Also, yesterday it was reported that Thailand's economy has slipped into "a mild recession". Some details can be found here:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-08-20/thai-baht-slumps-to-one-year-low-as-economy-enters-recession.html

Those who actually read the news are very familiar with the problems and challenges that the country faces currently and in the coming months, and know that this downward trend will most likely continue. So, while it may not hit 40, it wouldn't be surprising to see it by the end of this year.
