I was wondering if anyone had any experience working with Hawthorn Muscat (HM). I applied today and received a call for a skype meeting tomorrow. I have worked in Saudi so I am familiar with Middle Eastern culture. I have chosen not to go back to Saudi because of the restrictive lifesyle for a single woman. I am certain that I meet the qualifications HM is seeking =TESOL masters, 4 years EFL experience (2 years in Saudi, 1 year in Korea and most recent 1 year taching here in Canada. If anyone has anything they would like to share about HM I would be most grateful.

You may want to not just walk away but run. Do a search and you will find much about Hawthorn and Majali. I was asked to do an interview with them, I only did it to see what would happen and if what people say is true.

I waited 18 minutes past the appointment time (not a good sign), when they came on their internet kept cutting out. They immediately began blaming my internet and I told them ironic I talk to Pakistan daily via Skype without any problem but somehow now my internet is the problem.

They said they would contact me back in an hour, never did. I then was told to reschedule and did but they never answered my Skype, go figure! If someone can't conduct a good interview, it is usually a sign nothing else will go good either.

Majali is the prime figure you will deal with and like I said above is notorious on this board. If you are desperate then I guess its better than no job but I would take Saudi Arabia over this place any day, from what has been written.

Prepare to be low balled at every turn. Hawthorn is no worse than the rest I have worked for in Oman, but that's no compliment. Majali, himself is personable, but will nickel and dime the hell out of you. Salary paid on time, but by no means a great agency to work for, but in all fairness, I don't know one which is. Proceed with caution and don't raise your expectations too high. Know also that you'll be paid much less than the Ministry teachers in the Colleges of Applied Sciences he recruits for, that in itself is disheartening. Just keep your wits about you and your expectations low and you'll be ok. Good luck.

One thing that seems interesting about Hawthorn is that in their job advertisements they don't state that they require a 'related degree'(e.g. a degree in Literature or Education etc.). Does anyone have any ideas why they can do this and the other recruiters can't?

Thanks for the information in the posts from all -I decided that too many red flags and didn't accept. Thanks for your comments:)
