Why is it some days I can drink all day and go for a jog the next day but some days, like today, I get a pounding bloody headache that leaves me incapacitated?
I was only drinking Tiger beer today, not the bia hoi stuff so its not that. |

Maybe that's the problem. |

Possible, it is brewed here so the process or storage of anything can be put into question. |

Try a Berroca vitamin drink in the morning, and eating eggs, which contain cysteine, a key nutrient that removes toxins and gets the liver back to form.
Down in Saigon there has been a string of expat deaths publicized, a few of them involving revelers in Pham Ngu Lao. Talk of the town is that tainted or fake booze could play a part in this. Methanol is a common additive; effects can range from deadly to what you describe, a very uncharacteristically strong hangover.
Bottled beer is particularly vulnerable due to the ease of getting empty bottles, putting something dodgy in, and re-sealing it. For the most part the sham we hear about is to refill Tiger or Heineken bottles with Bia Saigon. Like many, I prefer Bia Saigon anyways, so it's not a big deal to me. I haven't heard anything about tainted beer (methanol, etc) but I wouldn't put it above certain "entrepreneurs."
Playing it safe is to drink canned beer that is opened in front of you, and to only drink spirits in a place you know you can trust. However even a trusted place could be duped. A recent article in an expat mag described a nice trick with spirits. If you turn the bottle upside down and back upright, there should be a lot of lingering tiny bubbles. If the bubbles disappear rapidly, that's a dodgy sign.
I've never been too paranoid with my drinks, though I stay away from "bucket" cocktails and don't buy spirits at dive-ish places or places known for their beer. |

Maybe a shot of Smirnoff would fix you up. |

I didn't think of that, and yes of course, all one needs is a bottle cap crimper and Bob's your uncle.
Yep, a nice shot should clear it all up. Hic.
Another one is the high level of formaldehyde in beers over here. I have, like probably all of us, known the hangovers from the 5k beers from a keg while perched on plastic chairs. |

A question I've asked myself more times than I care to remember.
But then I considered that there have also been times when I woke up feeling under the weather even though I had nothing to drink the night before. I would even say to myself, "It's a good thing I didn't drink last night".
My point is it may not have anything to do with the alcohol. On the other hand, the alcohol may exacerbate some other problem that you did not even know you had(or vice versa)......food poisoning, for example.
Once, as a beginning drinker in my early twenties, I woke up with a bad whiskey hangover that merged right into a bout of bronchitis. Bad timing, and without a doubt the sickest I have ever been in my life.
One last thing and I will end my thesis on hangovers. The reason that I used food poisoning as an example is that experts say it is much more common than people realize. Not the "sick for 3 days , go to the emergency room kind", but just enough of it to make you think you have the flu. Combine that with drinking and, well, you get the point.
That's all I have to say about that............ |

You could very well be right I have just come off the flu. I think another reason may be hydration; that particular day I couldn't stop going to the toilet. It isn't something I usually do.
I have found a local whiskey brewery here which is cheap, 100k for a litre bottle, and very clean. I have never felt terrible on this stuff even if I manage to clean off 2/3 of the bottle in an evening. |
