I will be taking the CELTA soon and they have advised me to bring original materials for one of the training lessons. I emailed them for specific information but only got a vague response. I presume they mean something along the lines of visuals like photographs, pictures, drawings etc. Can any recent CELTA graduates clue me in to what they are expecting? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I'm a complete newbie when it comes to teaching.

I will be taking the course in Thailand. My only concern is that in order to decide upon the appropriate original materials I would need to decide what the content of the lesson will be before I've even started the course. Sounds a bit backwards to me.  |

I guess that finding original and suitable material in Thailand may be difficult, hence the request. You dont need to think too long and hard about it TBH ... one of the lessons on a CELTA has to use genuine / original material, rather than something that has been specifically adapted for use in a classroom.
Perhaps pack a single sunday newspaper supplement / magazine thing. Perhaps a Sunday Sun offering would be more accessible and colourful than The Times. A tabloid type paper.
In the UK we are forever getting pizza menu / home delivery fast food menus delivered through the letterbox. 4 of those could be used in a food type lesson.
Add in postcards ... perhaps up to 10 incase you have a large-ish class.
None of the above will take up too much room in your luggage, not expensive, and the odds of comng up with a lesson out of this material is quite high. |

| Tourist information leaflets can be useful too (you can use them to practice asking opening times or admission prices, for example.) |
