Is it unethical to keep applying to jobs after you have accepted a job offer? Considering the job offer may fall through for whatever reason or may be rescinded. I mean you just signed a piece of paper which means nothing until you actually get a visa in your passport.
On the other hand in a strict sense seems to be bad faith job hunting. |

When I arrived in Asia, to start a career in teaching, one of the teachers told me to always have plans A, B and C. At the time I couldn't quite grasp what he meant. Two years down the line and I really get what he meant - so no, it is not unethical for you to preempt the actions of quite often, unscrupulous employers.
I worked for a top tier university in Asia and it was closed down because it was handing out degrees from universities abroad that hadn't given them the license to do so. This college didn't even have the license to operate as a college in the first place - Until one picks up experience, it is hard to foresee this kind of thing happening.
I say good for you for being able to foresee trouble and trying to avoid it - I wasn't so 'clued up'. |

I would like to add that I understand the conundrum. I felt quite bad when not letting one school know I had accepted another offer. The school, with only 4 days left for me to fly out, sent me an email explaining that I was not to come anymore.
The very next day the other school 'saved' me and began the process of getting me over. Me being a little dishonest by not informing that school saved my bacon.
This is an excuse I know but individuals do not have the resources of a large organisation and unfortunately, these organisations are less than exemplary nowadays. Perhaps, the question for me, is to be in a position to be 'straight as an arrow' when my experience allows me to contact, confidently, the better schools that have managed to arrive at a place to be able to stand on good moral hiring practices.
No doubt, this is hypocritical. |

It works both ways my friend. Just because you've signed a contract does not mean that you've got the job. When you get the air ticket and are sitting in the plane then you know that everything is 'legit'.
I signed for something else many months ago and was offered another thing in its place in a space of 2 days.... So what does that tell you about the 'honesty' of the recruiters/universities?
Always keep your options open and always have a back up plan. |

As long as the mindset of "You should be grateful that we offered you employment so you can enter our fabulous Kingdom" persists, this will be the problem! |

I have waiting for an airline ticket for a month now and time is ticking. If I do not hear by tomorrow and I am accepting a previous offer-Full-Stop.
I really do not feel bad about it at all. I could easily have the job rescinded.
