I am a graduating senior from Ohio State and I would like to teach english in Thailand following my graduation in December 2013. I am currently navigating different options and it seems that the easiest and most efficient way is to go through a middle man like CIEE that will then place me at a school in Thailand. CIEE placement cost is around $2000. I am wondering if that is normal for Thailand or if there are other cheaper programs that offer similar services that I may just not know about. Many of my friends are teaching in South Korea and were able to be placed through a govermental program for free. I would greatly appreciate any advice from anyone who has taught/is teaching in Thailand!
My second question is pertaining to receiving a TEFL certificate. I currently do not have a TEFL because I am unsure which is best to get. There are so many different types (internet, classes, ect) and groups that offer them, I am confused which is best. I have emailed the Thai embassy a number of times with similar questions, but unfortunately have recieved no response.
I would appreciate any advice or contacts that could offer more information.
Thanks!! |

Finding a job teaching English is easy in Thailand as long as money is not your major concern. I see lots and lots of young people here touring the country and teaching English to make ends meet so once you graduate from your university get a TEFL certificate here and start hitting the pavements of Bangkok and you will receive offers! Good luck! |

I would suggest that you join your friends in Korea for a year or two, save up some money, then come teach in Thailand.
The LOS can be a interesting place to live but except for a select few well qualified and experienced teachers who work in international schools the pay isn't great.
One more thing, never pay anyone for a job placement. |
