I need to be at Narita airport by 6 am. I was wondering if there is anywhere in or near the airport where I could spend the night cheap or for free?
Has anybody on this board been in this situation? What did you do? |

You're kinda' screwed. The trains don't run at 6 am, so you'll need to either take a taxi from the city to the airport, or stay at an airport hotel. Both options are pricey.
As for a place to stay, I'd normally recommend Fuji backpackers hostel (2,700 yen/night), but the male dorm is full tonight. |

Though the airport is technically closed, it is possible to stay overnight if you have an early morning flight. Get to the airport before it closes the day before your flight. At some point night security will gather people up in a certain area of the airport, check your flight info/ID documents, and then you can try and get some sleep on the chair/bench things. There is usually a crowd gathered in the area where you can sleep so it's pretty easy to spot. Not the most comfortable thing to do, but it certainly is the cheapest. I did it twice last year. |
