After dutifully paying my residency tax for the past 3 years I'm starting to wonder what happens if I just don't pay? I've got Japanese friends that haven't paid their tax for over 12mths and they don't seem to be too worried about the system. I've read that the local gov't can get authorization to take money from bank accounts, though I don't know anyone this has happened to. I'm leaving Japan soon and I'm starting to think that the 6o oooyen I'll pay in my last 6 mths will do better in my pocket. What are the penalties if you delay payment (or don't pay at all) and get caught? genkiT |

Hi,
I have friends who pay and some who do not. However, one Aussie girl did have the money taken from her account to pay the tax. It is also tricky (if u do not pay) to move apartments and naturally you will be unable to claim any tax back when u leave.
Keep doing what your doing. |
