|

I received a contract and it reads:
"Upon completion of two continuous years of service with the Company, the
Employee is entitled to a service indemnity award per the Saudi Labor Law."
Is that something different from Annual Paid Vacation? Because in the lower part of the contract where it puts out the basics, it reads:
"Annual Paid Vacation: 30 Days"
Also, this is to work at a university. It states:
August 31, 2013 to August 31, 2014 (Now, obviously they couldn't have assumed that I was going to be hop on a plane the day I received this, so it's a bit strange. But I'm curious if this is normal for a university contract, since it seems to end one full year later. Are they planning to send me off to institutes to fulfill the year or ?) |

Dear gorkomi,
That's your EOS (end of service) bonus. If you stay only one year, you don't get it. But if you stay for two to four consecutive years, you get 1/2 months salary for each year (i.e. 2 years = I month's salary; 3 years = 1 1/2 month's salary; 4 years = 2 month's salary.
Should you stay 5 consecutive years (or more) you get a full month's salary for each year of service.
Regards,
John |

Johnslat,
Thank you, but I just want to verify-- EOS is NOT the same as annual paid vacation, right. So I will still get a full month's salary at the end of one year?
Any idea about the contract dates for a university? Is it normal to August to August of the next year, even though the school year is not that long? |

Dear gorkomi,
The EOS is entirely separate (and different) from your annual holiday pay. You'll get your summer holiday pay after 1 year - but no EOS bonus.
The contracts I had were from August to August. One reason to try not to come back late from summer holiday is that it could affect your EOS bonus should you stay more than 1 year.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
John |

Given the 30 days vacation and your concern you'll be shipped off to other locations, I suspect your contract is actually with a contracting company and not with a university. That is, the entity indicated on the contract as 'employer' is not a university. |

I want to know if they're thinking they're going to ship me off to other places. I'm going to change a bit of information but here is the gist:
At the start of the contract it reads:
Employee is assigned to work at: KFUPM
However, in the second part of the contract, it reads:
First Party/ Company/ Also called the Employer: Education Experts
Location: Dhahran
(Nomad, I sent you a private message) |

If that's what's written in your contract and you sign off on it, then yes, that's a possibility. |

Sounds like you'd be working for the oft maligned EDEX at the much lauded KFUPM. |
