Hi there,
I teach on the NET scheme in Hong Kong at the moment and am considering a move to Taiwan with my wife and child. I have a BA, two TEFLs, a PGDE and eight years' teaching experience in Australian schools as well as local and international schools here in HK.
I understand that moving to Taiwan would involve a reduction in salary, but we would want to move there for two years to experience a different lifestyle and to improve our Mandarin - and also to try somewhere different before we eventually move back to Australia. I was wondering if anyone could let me know what packages are like at international schools. Ideally would like to live off my salary alone, which we are currently able to do in HK.
Any tips and insights would be greatly appreciated. |

Honky Nick,
As for international schools, your options are limited. I don't believe there is an Australian international school in Taiwan. There are sudo-international schools that pay 60,000NT a month. You could also work at a public elementary school in Taiwan.
My guess is that you will be hard pressed to make more than 60,000NT. Maybe you can get on with the European International School. |
