Hope one and all (and especially the newbies) are enjoying the day, as stressful as the job may be! Hope your students remembered- I got some cutsie fake roses and lots of cards.
Check out your favourite places today for discounts/ freebies. My local Starbucks is giving free coffee for all teachers, as well as a personalised card. A nice thought! |

What did I get this year?
At the beginning of the day, I got a couple of carnations (real) and roses (fake - - but were told the petals were made of soap - - they did smell nice). Later, some of the boys who didn't bring me anything ran to the school bookstore/general store and bought me some more of the roses (they're primary grade 5 so calm down!). I wish they hadn't done that as I'm sure they were feeling guilty they forgot Teacher's Day!
I also got all sorts of chocolate (my favorite was the Snicker's bar though), even some "Menthe Chocolat" soap (Mint Cocoa Butter soap). I got a box of Korean cakes and a gift certificate to get some Hagen Daaz moon cake ice creams. I do enjoy those!
I think it should be Teacher's WEEK! |

Teacher's Day should come later. They don't know us as teachers yet. We are just some foreigner in the classroom now. It's more of a celebrity status. |

Dang, all I got was a "happy teacher's day!" Then again, I had no idea there was one until my students told me. |

Saw a few students going to the training centre with flowers and other gifts this morning.
First class gave me nothing ... wasnt too bothered. My afternoon class is the one Im 'head teacher' for ... went to see them at 3pm ... and they gave me nothing either! Not even a greeting!
There response was 'Im not Chinese, and so its a festival for students to give to the Chinese teachers!'. |

I was flipped out by Teachers' Day. During my first year in China, I got lots of flowers and gifts. The Chinese teachers seemed baffled by it. After that first year, though, the number of flowers and gifts dropped off to nothing. Maybe word got out that I was an easy teacher and didn't need bribes. |
