I'm located in Thailand right now and I want to work in Saudi Arabia because the salary is a lot better, and want to take a job offer.

The problem is that they want me to return to America to do the paperwork such as the background check and the health check, and those would take about a week, but there's a three week period while they take care of the visa.

I could do an FBI background check from Thailand, and do the medical test here and save a fortune. But they insist that I go home to do these things.

I also don't have anywhere that I could stay if I went home because my Dad remarried and his new wife doesn't want a 34 year old hanging around the house for 3 weeks, watching netflix and waiting for his visa paperwork to go through. I also don't want to veg out for three weeks either at home waiting.

Do you know if it would be possible on other contracts to do everything from Thailand or even from Saudi Arabia?

Do you think that I would be excluded from doing Saudi Arabia if I didn't want to return home? Is it just this recruiter, or are there other options for all the checks and the visa?

I am having the same problem. I spoke to a visa agent here for the Saudi embassy and it can be done. The recruiter is experienced with hiring people. They are not lawyers or visa agents. If you are a resident of Thailand, you can apply for it from here. The recruiter will just think you are being difficult. Also, it can take longer than 3-4 weeks for the visa to process. I know one woman who was in the US for 4 months waiting until the embassy would process it.

Some recruiters will have you fly to Bahrain and pay the hotel while you wait as well. I think it all depends on who the recruiter had a "relationship" with.

Four years ago I got the visa and medical done in Bahrain, which took a month. The organisation I was going to work for picked up the costs - hotel, flight, medical, visa - at a later date and so initially I had to pay. Bahrain isn't particularly cheap although the medical was only $100, the hotel room rate decreased the longer I was there and I didn't have to pay anything for the visa.

Having said all that, I have no idea about Thailand, although I'm not sure Saudi even has an embassy in Bangkok due to a severance of relations a while ago.

I'm from America and I'm not a Thai resident. The Saudi Embassy is here and it's open in Thailand.

I think I might be able to do the medical examination and the criminal background check in a week, with the transcripts and degree confirmation.

Then I could fly back to Thailand, and mail my passport back home.

Then have their DC office take care of the visa work at the Saudi Embassy and get my passport mailed back to me.

I can't believe, that I would have to pay a thousand bucks to fly back to the states and do a medical check and that one here couldn't work.

I'm curious if it's just the recruiting company's policy with the people that do their visas or if I should just write of Saudi Arabia because it's a problem across the board.

If you try to apply logical thinking to Saudi Arabia, you will lose your mind.

As far as I know, for the Saudi work visa you have to go back to your home country. If there is a way to do it in Thailand or elsewhere I don't know... Everyone I know of had to go back to the UK or US.

er... no they don't and no it isn't. Believe me, shebab knows what s/he is talking about. Do not underestimate how ridiculous things will be here.

Edited to add: if this requirement and inability to do things the way you see is logically fit is frustrating you, you might want to rethink coming to Saudi at all. If you can't jump through this little hoop, how will you have the motivation to jump through the many that will present themselves to you daily when you get here? In comparison to what some have to go through, what you're facing is nothing.

Dear Makoli Mark Mark,

What you NOW see as "a dispicable and disgusting post" may seem more like an honest description, once you get to Saudi and experience it - if you ever do.

The people responding are or have been there (I was for 19 years), and they know whereof they speak.

You, on the other hand, haven't set foot in the Kingdom yet. Instead of insulting them, you should be grateful they're being candid.

Regards,
John

Yeah, you guys are so smart and my superiors in every way. I'm not impressed. Do you want a medal or something? Does everything have to be a pissing contest?
