Since we have a thread whose subject is "favorite words," I thought it would be only fair to give "least favored words" equal time (and space).

Words could be least favored for reasons of sound (e.g. cacophony,) meaning plus sound (e.g. mucous,) overuse (e.g. awesome,) or even personal associations.

Let me begin with

MOIST

Regards,
John

P.S. Oddly enough, I think that some of the same words will show up on both threads.

This is cosmic, johnslat; I was gonna say "awesome", but I hate "my bad" more. When I was in Mexico, some of my students were saying it. I mean, they're just starting to speak English..........

I would tell them politely but firmly "DON'T SAY THAT IN MY CLASS" (it had caps when I said it, too).

"I'm loving it." - Lifted from working class English and rammed down our throats into common usage by the McDonald's corporation of the world

schedule - I hate the whole discussion about whether this German word is to be pronounced "She-dule" or "Ske-dule"

Sorry this is a swear word - but the word disgusts the hell out of me - "mother**cker."
