|
|
Hello All,
I know some of you will tell me to look in past posts and believe me I have.
However, the best places to work in Qatar is really a relative subject and seems to change hourly.
In the opinions of my esteemed colleagues, where do you recommend I apply?
As always thanks.

What is your experience? What are your qualifications? Where do you want to work (in a perfect world)?
It's all very subjective. Are you someone who can "go with the flow" or are you someone who wants "to make a difference"?
Give us something to go on |

I think employers will rapidly lose interest in you when they learn that you want to be accompanied by your octogenarian mother. Harsh but true. |

Definitely not the police academy. One of my pals had a real runaround with these people. |

Probably the places at Education City - Georgetown University if you can get there. I've also heard Northwestern is a nice place to work. |

I want to bring my wife with me to teach in Qatar, do you think that might pose a problem to getting a job there. |

For you or for her?
If you have decent credentials so that you can be hired by the better places, family status is normally a part of the contract.

Ah Big Problem!! In the Gulf, online certs are not recognized. That makes you ineligible for nearly all of the jobs... even most of the bad ones. Seriously... anyone that would hire you would not be someone that you would want to work for... They require a Cert that involves significant supervised classroom teaching. I suggest that you invest in a CELTA. It is the preferred certificate in the Middle East.
To get a decent job in EFL in the Gulf, the preferred credentials (and most common outside of Saudi) is a related MA. Some employers will accept a BA+CELTA (or other recognized cert... nothing online). If you want to teach in the decent K-12 schools, you need a legitimate teaching certificate/license from your state in the US.

i see well thats unfortunate. Does experience count for anything. I have been working for a fairly recognized language institute which has branches in most arab countries for over 2 years. That being said what you say isnt surprising. What is the price range for a celta certificate? |

By language institutes, do you mean language schools like ELS or Berlitz? They are the bottom of the barrel jobs in the Gulf. The two decent employers in that market in the Middle East are the British Council and AMIDEAST.
For prices on a CELTA, the general discussion board might be the place to start. They are not cheap, nor are they easy. Do a search on here and you should find lots of discussion.
