I'd presume they are advertising because they need teachers. Considering the date, it must be for 2nd semester.
Do a search and read a few dozen threads... that will tell you how things are going... or not going. Conditions do vary by branch, but you don't know which branch you would be assigned to until you have the offer in hand.

for the second semester, got it.
I have done quite a bit of research on them. From what Ive read they seem to make people work, just for the sake of making them work. Too many meetings, more contact hours, 9-5 sitting at desks and much less vacation than other universities such as UAEA, Zayed, AUS, KUSTAR etc..
Is this a correct assumption?
I would rather wait till TESOL Arabia and apply to as many as possible and then take the HCT offer as last resort. (assuming I get any offers, one needs to show humility). Do you think this is the better way to go rather than applying now for the second semester with HCT? |

Partially... yes, you do have to be there for most of the day, but that is also true of UAEU and ZU and probably most others. (not sure about AUS) Yes, they do love meetings and committees. One can practice sleeping with one's eyes open.
Vacations are pretty much the same at HCT, UAEU, and ZU as they are all three government institutions under the same Ministry supervision.

I would always suggest attending TA, if you can, to be able to talk to as many employers and other teachers to learn all that you can.

Why are HCT still advertising? Because they're DESPERATE for warm bodies to throw in front of their awful students for 24 hours per week!
Do yourself a BIG favor and AVOID the place at all costs! |

I know a few qualified teachers who applied and didn't land positions so I am not so sure they are so desperate for teachers. I think the expectations for teachers applying for positions are too high - HCT want extremely qualified teachers. Thus, missing out on teachers willing to work for their organization, and are forced to keep recruiting, hoping for higher paper qualifications. |

Dear Solar Strength.
Salary and benefits in relation to teacher's qualifications and experience, I believe.

This is not true. I don't know about ZU, but UAEU gets much more generous vacations than HCT. And also the 'presenteeism' policy is nowhere near as bad. |

It would be nice if you were specific about the differences. How many days in the summer? How long is the semester break?
The advantage of working at a large organization like UAEU is that it is harder for them to keep track of who should be where... and when. This rule has always varied by department at the various universities around the Gulf.

UAEU academic calendar is above.
This year's UAEU summer break for returning faculty was 25 June - sign in again 1 September. |
