Hi I´ve been looking for work in Irapuato, Guanajuato for the last couple of weeks. I just started working for ITESM, it´s only 10 hours a week. I applied at an Irish language school called CEDIN and when I told them I have another job, they said it would be illegal for them to hire me. Apparently the FM3/Residente Temporal visa only allows you to work for one employer. I was pretty incredulous about what she was telling me and just wondered if anyone knows anything about this??? |

This is the way it used to be in the FM3/FM2 days; I don’t know how much it’s changed:
If your visa said you authorized to work for a given employer, then you couldn’t work for another. If you changed employers, you had to get the new employer on your visa. But I don’t think there was any reason why you couldn’t get more than one employer on your visa. Another alternative was to get independent status, which means you were authorized to work for any employer. |

ok thanks. I need to go to immigration to let them know I stopped working for my last employer. Should I request independent status then? |

I have had no problem adding a second employer to my FM3 and my FM2. It is only illegal if you don't tell "migracion". The second employer was easier. All I had to do was get the school to write a letter stating some basic details. I had to pay another fee to migracion - always paid at the bank.
Ask at migracion. Last time I did this they even gave me a copy of the immigration law that stated the requirements.
But of course, I don't know what the new immigration legislation says.
It has been my experience that once you ask here or other people, it's always best to go directly to migracion to ask. |

thanks for the replies
Went to the INM Office in Leon yesterday and the woman there told me it's fine to work for 2 employers, you just have to take a job offer letter with your visa to an INM Office so that they know. She didn't say anything about having to pay a fee. |

As is often the case, Leslie was right. In fact, there is a tramite for Notification of Changes, and a fee to go with it: it is called, "Notificar Cambios". Adding an employer would fall in the category requiring notification of INM in this formal way.
Start here, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on "Solicitud de Estancia," then, "Que desea hacer?" You will find "Notificar Cambios".
http://www.inm.gob.mx/
It appears to me to have an official fee of 320 pesos associated with it.

And, here are the requirements of the tramite, what you'll need to provide INM with your Notification.

Hope that helps! |
