Yep, it's that time again. I have read many threads about crazy disturbed unstable teachers.

Guy in my school is totally off his rocker. Since the day he started he showers us with stories on the millions he has made in his life, the companies he has owned, inventions, days in Nam, and the high flying people he has hung with and knows.

Who hasn't met someone like this, right?

But now we find out he's been throwing his students beatings when they misbehave.

Hitting them, tossing them into the wall and things like that. He told us a story where he saw a kid raise his middle finger and he went over and slapped the kid and bent his finger till he cried.

The rumors are starting to fly that he's gonna get canned soon but these are just rumors. Normally I don't interfere with other people's issues but the safety of students is an issue here.

Think I need discuss this with senior admin at my school?

The dude is a real nut case - he got into a beef with another teacher the other day and threatened him some serious bodily harm.

I'm off my territory here, but agree that the threat of physical harm to either students or other teachers (well, or to anyone!) is absolutely beyond the borders.

I'd report what he told you he did - but I'd do it very carefully....

He is currently physically abusing the students ?
I do not understand why he has not been fired and/or arrested already.

Well.....YEAH! (D-uh!)

Personally, if I had irrefutable proof that he has physically assaulted students or he threatened another teacher, I would give the administation an ultimatum: he goes or I go. Get the other teachers on board with this as well.

Crazy guys say crazy things as well as do them , so maybe the 'stories ' are just that. Have the students complained (to you , or to the chinese teachers) ?

Only give an ultimatum if you have other teachers on board. Otherwise you might be the one to walk if the rumours or accusations are untrue , or if this guy has some special pull with the management.

I don't understand the necessity of the question. "I am aware of child abuse, should I report it? Not sure....? Best seek the advice of a bunch of faceless internet people''- seriously, how are you going to feel if you procrastinate further and some kid ends up in hospital? Grow a pair already

Being in China too long's got nothing to do with this. When in foreign countries, regardless of where it is, it's wise to tread carefully when it comes to legal stuff.

Kungfuman has no real evidence of child abuse, just hearsay from a guy known to tell wild tales. They used to lynch people based on that back in the day, but I guess I don't need to explain that to someone named "buffalobill." Surprised

There's no doubt this crazy teacher has problems, even telling stories about beating kids is disturbing. But I don't think INTERPOL needs to be brought in just yet.

He says they 'find out' - he doesn't say what evidence he has, but, the words 'find out' indicate knowledge rather than hearsay

''he told us a story'' - the guy has told them! And you think this is something to ignore??

One of these factors alone warrants serious concern, two together, = action time

Being in China too long's got nothing to do with this. When in foreign countries, regardless of where it is, it's wise to tread carefully when it comes to legal stuff.

Complete rubbish. I personally, and I am reasonably sure, the majority of foreigners I know here, would be much slower to become embroiled in a legal dispute here rather than say, Sweden, The Netherlands or some other more enlightened country. Being in China has certainly got a lot to do with it.

They used to lynch people based on that back in the day, but I guess I don't need to explain that to someone named "buffalobill.

I hardly see how reporting suspected crimes to the relevant authorities can be equated to lynching.

I wonder - if you heard this level of rumor concerning a school where your kid was studying, would you take the same wait and see attitude?

As a mum this turns my stomach, I'd want to know if this was happening to my kid. That said, I know first hand how the rumour mill works and it's nasty. People hear and see what they want to, when they want to. Bear that in mind.

How old are the students?

Is there actual evidence -has anyone seen this happen- or it it hearsay?

Where did the stories of mistreating students come from?

Have the students involved complained?

Has the teacher who was threatened complained?

The guy sounds at best unstable so tread carefully.

I would whole heartily disagree with this as none of the countries mention to include more enlighten countries would be any more fair when it comes to assault or abuse (or any charges to be truthful...they are all police states) but for sure unless someone has eye witness knowledge of these actions taking place, going forward would not be prudent.

Most institution I am familiar with do include a CCTV camera in the classroom....none here to do actual time stamp recordings?

Since this is an ongoing problem outside the scope of any one teachers authority, responsibility should not be shouldered by one lone instructor who has been subjected to the ramblings truthful or otherwise. Grow a pair, seriously......those who say these kind of things usually are substituting for their own cowardly actions in the past.

Seriously - read this again and rewrite it in English

You need to be careful in how you bring this up with your school. You have no proof of anything, just a lot of soandso said blahblahblah.

Usually Chinese students love to complain about teachers. If craziness is going on in class, there's a pretty good bet the school knows. Putting your nose into it can backfire in any number of ways.

If some posters wish to call me a coward, have at it. I certainly am not. I have however seen this kind of thing before (not to this extreme) backfire.

Unless you see something happen in his class...I'd suggest you either mind your own business or tread very carefully when you bring this up with the school. Do not make any accusations since you can't support them.
