Anybody have any experience with this? Are you able to get federal loans income adjusted if you're working in a foreign country? What about defaulting while abroad? |

Both those scenarios certainly exist; there are borrowers who faithfully make their loan payments as well as others who default on theirs. If the latter fits your situation, I suggest you do an Internet search on defaulting student loans while abroad---plenty of informative articles written on the topic. |

With my college loans it is possible to pay on an income-adjusted plan. Maybe your loan company also does this. |

I know it's possible, I just wasn't sure if it was possible if your income was earned in a foreign country. |

Since you're seeking a response specific to your situation, you really should direct your questions to your lender. |

That's what I plan on doing. But they're all federal loans which are pretty common so I figured I'd try and ask here before having to deal with the inevitable lengthy hold times I'm about to face. |

I rarely contacted the loan service center by phone; their website is comprehensive and informative and is geared to handle borrowers' account changes, emailed inquiries, submission of forms, etc. It beats posting on this forum and waiting for a few generic (and possibly inaccurate or irrelevant) responses to trickle in. |

Hi, Banshheebeat,
I can vouch for the fact that adjustments are possible when working abroad. Not sure about your own loans, of course, but, in general, yes, it is possible.
