Ick! While rallying the hate-filled, illiterate and xenophobic, they are alienating and offending all those who might actually respond to a thoughtful, reasoned argument for placing limits on the wearing of identity-disguising clothing. But I suppose they get more of a thrill from stirring up other angry, like-minded hate-mongers.

Nope. Not in the sense that you mean. And that was exactly my point: I am one of those people who could be sympathetic to their purported goal, but this FB page is so hate-filled and offensive that there is no way they would get my support. Take a look at some of the "jokes" for starters: throwing pork at a mosque is supposed to be FUNNY? It isn't--it's just hateful and provocative. And stupid. I am not particularly PC, either, but this crowd is doing damage to their own cause.

A far better idea would be be to hurl pork at Buckingham palace. I mean it has got ham in the name after all. And German princelings just love their sausages! |

Those nutters behind the FB page probably also believe that the world is round. I am to announce that the Earth is flat because the crazies believe the opposite ?
All praise to the English judge who recently refused to allow a witness in a burka to testify.

Whatever about dukes and dreadnoughts, I find barons to be more costly to society than burkas, and probably more of a bother. |

Nobody would wear a Burka in a western country unless they are nuts or most likely being forced too by an Islamist husband. How's that for reasoning? |

Sash, I'm more interested in hearing why you have such a negative attitude towards the British royal family, have they done something to you? I suspect not, therefore you have some predjuice and hate issues I think! |

I never mentioned the royal family (though even that phrase itself makes me cringe). I am sure they are charming people. Germans usually are : )
I said ban the monarchy, along with the rest of the aristocracy. It is not so hard to understand why. Any society which elevates particular individuals on the basis of their birth, their bloodline, cannot make any claims to equality. It does not value all of its citizens equally, and they do not enjoy the same rights. So I say get rid of it.
In the case of the British monarchy, it is also embroiled in the state religion. The head of state is also the titular head of the church of England. A virtual theocracy by any other name... Yet people are more concerned about the evils of burkas, and ignore the iniquities of their own regime.
You define this as prejudice? Not really. Would be more likely that royalists have simply been exposed to Piggie propaganda for most of their lives, and so cannot distinguish between a genuine desire for social justice and mere hatred. |

You might be surprised. Now that I am older and not so comely it isn't a problem. But when I was younger I was at times on the receiving end of very unwanted attention from certain elements of the male population. I wouldn't have minded wearing a burka so I could move about without said attention. BUT it would have been MY choice and not someone forced on me. For all that many people are horrified that such a thing should be forced on women, no one seems to care much that many men force unwanted and uncomfortable attention on women at time, and that some women might see this as a welcome refuge. |
