Hi.
1. Do I need a CELTA or comparable certificate to land a teaching gig in either Medellin or Baranquilla? All I've got at present is a BA in English from a US university.
2. How proficient must my Spanish be? Yes, I know, the more the better. I flunked it twice in high school, flunked again in one college and dropped it two semesters in a row at another college, plus I've lived in a predominantly Spanish language neighborhood on the West Coast of the US for 25 years, so there is some background music there.
3. How would you compare the cost of living in Medellin and in Barranquilla to Buenos Aires? Projecting ahead to spring/summer 2014.
Thanks very much in advance. |

1) No. Only 1-2 schools require such.
2) Pretty sure ppl have taught / moved to Colombia with basically zero Spanish. Bring a small dictionary.
3) Even in expensive cities you can usually live cheap ie live in a small dump or have roommates on the outside of town, local foods, etc. 500-600 usd minimum to get by. |
