|
|
As some of you may know the last "free" voice for ranting and raving has shut down - the GaijinPot Forum. What differed about the site from Dave's is that Dave's is for talking quite seriously about job issues or immigration type of questions. GaijinPot was really an anything goes place to also get into meaty topics like relationship troubles and marital troubles while living in Japan. It's silence closes an important voice for the expat community on the Internet and our healthy communication and dialogue as expats in Japan. As an alternative the administrators offered a very limited GaijinPot discussion group on Facebook.
Anyone else disappointed? Are there any alternative websites for expats to have important non-job related discussions about life in Japan? |

It's shut down? I don't go as often as I did, and even that wasn't much, but I thought it was still around.
That aside, I sometimes go to japanguide, but the set up is a bit different. |

Big daikon took been gone for a while.
GP won't be missed. Too many trolls, and very little seriousness. I don't want to constantly hear about picking up girls. Its super childish.
I hope that the serious GPers come here and make Dave's more active |

GP is also run as a commercial site and would (will?) delete conversations about sponsoring companies. When Nova was coming down, GP kept deleting rather informative posts, including translations of Japanese news stories. |

Oh yeah, I really don't like the site on account of them bowing to their sponsors so shamelessly. A site discussing Japan, can't even discuss an event that was probably impacting most Gaijin in some pay, be it personally, a friend, or the ALT/eikaiwa salary |

Seems a lot of outfits are closing these days. JET closed their applying forum. That leaves ITIL and here as reliable resource forums. |

All the criticism about GP is correct, but I did get some useful info there about divorce in Japan. There was quite a good section on marital troubles and how people went about divorce etc... I'd say there were a handful of useful threads while others were probably ridiculous nonsense...
I'm not sure what ITIL is. What does it stand for? Is there a website? I haven't heard of it before. |

Yup. They can be pretty snarky in the chit-chat forums, but when it comes to SOPs, there are many members willing to go over them. |

Let's Japan is a decent independent forum for expats living in Japan. Jobs, personal troubles, sports, etc.
