My husband is a native American and has a Master Degree in English. He taught in two Universities and one Community College as an instructor for total six years experience. All three schools were in the United States. Subjects he taught were Composition and Rhetoric, and Technical/Business Writing for Freshman and Sophomore.

We have tried applying many universities level teaching jobs (Lecturer or Instructor) here in the past year but no response at all. We wonder what he is lacking? Would his Bachelor Degree in General Studies? or his age is over 55 already? We still want to try but would appreciate insights about Hong Kong situation.

At instructor level, the lack of response is more likely to be because he is not in HK for immediate interview. Although there are a few international hires at this grade, for the most part the universities can find enough qualified current residents who have the right to work in HK that they don't need to hassle with getting staff from overseas.

He has been living in HK for almost two years already with a dependent visa. Would there be other reasons?

Sorry, hadn't caught that you are already here ... in that case, I'm afraid I don't know. My own experience is that being over 50 hasn't hindered me in job hunting.
Come to think of it, I did see someone mention over on Geoexpat that they found some employers were worried about hiring people on dependent visas in case the spouse suddenly got transferred back overseas.

I have a suspicion that most university posts go to friends/connections of those already employed there. Or to those who have previously taught p/t at that uni.
