I'm doing research on various scenarios, as I haven't made up my mind yet about a second term. If anyone can share some experience about their departure, I'd appreciate it.
-Since the visa is only for a year, that means I'd have to switch to a visitor permission, correct?
-What happens to unused holidays? Are you allowed to take them the last few days of the contract, or do they cash them out?
-How long do you have to scoot from the apartment? |

-You do not need to switch VISA.
-You should be allowed to take your holidays, or at least some of them. They will not cash them out.
-One month advance notice is all you need to give. |

My visa expires the last day of the contract. It would be almost impossible for me to leave that same day, especially since I need to use a car to get to the school. How do they handle that? |

How do they handle it? They don't. It's your responsibility to leave the country by the end of your VISA.
But I imagine that if you give them the impression you intend to stay another year, they will happily help renew your VISA in November or December. |

Yes, it's your responsibility to leave by the end of your visa. If you won't be able to leave by the last day of your work visa, you can change to a tourist visa. |

But what about those who came a little earlier than their contract started but decide not to stay another one- they'd then be working on a temp visa. |

No, my guess is that they'd get them to apply for another one year VISA, but in the case you mentioned you're in, who knows? Perhaps they won't bother. |

That happened to me once -- my work visa expired about 1 week before my contract. I just got a new 1-year work visa. |
