Does anyone have experience teaching English to police officers? I suppose a lot of this work is in dealing with tourists, but also as a general lingua franca in some areas.

I've seen a few scattered lessons on the web about vocabulary for police officers but I'm considering developing a larger side-project that can be used by teachers (... a book?). I'm hoping to write something more comprehensive than the standard lessons. Do you think this is marketable abroad?

The lessons that I have read seem to be written by English teachers who read about police officers in things like detective books but I've noticed a large gap in certain vocabulary that might be used in actual practice.

Has anyone done similar side-projects?

I worked with a traffic police officer once, and I really struggled to find materials. He was preparing for something specific, so I probably would have had to create stuff for him anyway, but I was surprised at how little was out there. I would definitely be interested in hearing more if you do anything with it.

Thank you! Traffic is an important topic too. I am still in the brain-storming stage, I think I might really put some heart and soul into this one. I spent 10 years in that field before becoming an ESL teacher so I really should put it to good use! I've already got a comprehensive 911 guide but that is specific for Canadian ESL learners, so I'd like to develop materials to be used in EFL.

I have a PDF of a sort of book called 'British Council English for Modern Policing'. Seems to have been self-produced by the BC in Romania. Oh, hang on... Just found it online too. Here's the link:
