Does anyone have any updated info about English First? I've been offered a position at a EF center in Shanghai and I'm curious to hear some updated constructive feedback. Thanks.

I think EF SH branches are actually owned by EF themselves, as opposed to being a franchise like the other 80 schools spread throughout the country.

This means that they will be run as model schools (examples to potential franchisees), with a focus on both turning a profit and maintaining good practice (many franchises tend to scrimp somewhat on the latter). Staff rooms will be well-resourced and management will be experienced and well-informed.

That said - it's still EF, you'll be busy, you'll get asked to to tedious marketing stuff (hello embarrassing Halloween party, street promotions, etc.) and you won't have much money left over at the end of the month. If you want to live in Shanghai though, that kind of experience is pretty much inevitable initially and at least EF will give you a sense of inclusion and support, and a clear program framework.

Good luck! Remember to drop by and let us know how things develop.
