I live in Shenzhen, and would naturally like to visit Hong Kong. However, although I have a Z visa and residancy permit, I only have a single- entry visa for China. Does anyone now if, or how I get back in? Mike.

I will assume that your employer got your "Z" visa and the residence permit. Yes? go to your employer and ask for a multi-entry. I paid the extra fee over a single entry, I volunteered to pay. was processed in about 6 days. okay?

Hola!

What I understand when I got my first Z visa is that the government considers HK to be a "single exit". To go to HK is to go into another country and that you spent your single exit.

I would say your experience should serve us as a warning that we must impress on our employers the absolute need to obtain for us a multiple-entry visa.
Of course, you canNOT go to Hong Kong and expect to be readmitted to Shenzhen - your visa will be invalid upon returning.
I don't know if you can upgrade it to a multiple-entry visa - that's the prerogative of the PSB to decide! Their office is in Jiefang Lu, near the Diwang tower.
How much longer is your visa valid?

Thanks for the replies. However, it is a little more complex because I recently moved here from Dalian where I am officially registered. In Dalian, I had no intention of going abroad until my contract expired. I know I can't go there and expect to return, but was asking for advice on how it can be done. I am sure I am not the first person in China to experience this problem. Thanks for your replies, and if you do know how to surmount this obstacle, please let me know.

Mike,

Do you have a good FAO? Ask their help. Ask them to ask the school leader.

Mike,
your Dalian visa is not valid for Shenzhen. You can only work legally for your PSB-approved employer. SInce you are now working in Shenzhen, you are in a delicate position although you need not worry too much, Shenzhen being rather lax.
In case your current employer wants to hire you legally they will have to cancel your old visa, and then you get a new, mutliple-entry one. But you will have to undergo a medical check-up again!

Good discussion of visas.

Are you male or female, because if you are male and have a daughter I would like to meet her, if she is available. She undoubtedly would be a good mate, what with your genetic composition our offspring would be unassailable.
