Are we allowed to mention Christ here, or will that be censored, in the way that*beep*, shit or cuntwould be? (What about bollocks?) |

Hector, maybe you are unaware of this but you just semi agreed with islamic theology. Muslims believe that Jesus is still alive and was never cruified. They believe that allah saved him andf that he will return as one of the signs of the last day. So mention christ all you like. The muslims love and respect him as they do all Messengers/Prophets of God. |

It's a shame that Muslims don't understand who Jesus really is. |

No, Saudi$Ever, I fully believe.
Saudi Arabia is full of bollocks!
Also, a bit of respect, please. A capital h is required - eg I love Jesus because He is the Son of God.
And, actually, Christ is something of a no-no in the Kingdom of Fat Freddie. Wa hadha ism huwa leesa mawjud fi al lugital arabiya. Fikri an huwa haraam. |

i would like to say that i think heclec is really stup _ d (fill in the blank smart guy). you guys talk about things that you have no knowledge about. find something to do, get a new hobby or something. by the way if you want to mention Jesus, go ahead it's a free world, but don't try to play stupid mind, or word games.. really its childish ---i assume you are a grown man. (i think) |

An if the Middle East is for you, why is your location stated as being the USA? |

Ah, The Wicker Man. Scary film! Ingrid Pitt was in that one. She was in a lot of 1970s horror films, often in a state of undress. Brightened up my teenage years no end. |

Even the word gringohas a Scottish connection. Rabbie Burns, Green grow the rushes, oh was being sung by some American soldiers during the Texan war (whatever it was called). Anyway, the Mexicans heard them and picked up gringo. |

Hector, fyi, that is only one of the 3 main theories on the source of the word gringo. The first one, which I tend to believe, says that gringo comes from the word griego (greek). In Latin, Spanish, English, and probably other languages, we have the phrase "It's greek to me." So, with a bunch of gringos saying things that were incomprehensible, the word got coined. Most of my Latin American students refused to believe this theory.
The other theory is also based in the Mexican American war. This is the one that most Latin Americans (that I have had this conversation with) agree with. They say it started out as "green go," telling the greens to go away. I don't beleive this one because, if any gringos remember their civil war history, the army's outfits at the time were Navy blue.
For now, I'll stick with the greek one, but the "green grow the rushes" is a close second. The third one doesn't work for me.
Now that we have successfully derailed this train..... could you tell me what the Arabic word for gringo is? |

One word which has spread from Sudan is khawadja. Originally used in the times of the Turks, and originally a respected title. How times change!
Other common words include nasrani, meaning Christian, and ferangi, meaning Frank.
I certainly always try to beferangi!
I still stick with the Rabbie Burns! |
